Has anyone encountered a building official that questions the specs on exterior plaster/stucco? Seems codes generally calls for ASTM standards that define stucco as OPC/portland cement(ASTM C926-98a)? How does one address the fact that codes and standards don't support lime plasters and lime cements for exterior application? Even with 7000 years of applied history!

Brad, when this building official heard the word "stucco"he probably thru up a red flag due to problems associated to EIFS stucco which is synthetic and over the years due to poor installation has failed and as a result cost insurance companies.Portland cement on the other hand has established itself without negative issues, generally due to the fact it takes experience to work the product. Also portland cement is lime based.I suggest you ask him what he wants specificly, and if you need help with looking up information i will try to help.
