I know that the coccio pesto is not recommended for outside, however...Of course would love to try it. Can you seal it with something to make it ok for outside San Diego (Mild warm climate all year round) It would just be small section on a flat wooden door. No traffic. If not is it because it would chip off?

why would you want to try a product that is NOT rated for the outside when you could just use someone else's that is? In Italy, tons of salmony colored buildings exist in coccio on the facades of those buildings.
