I prime my bare level 5 JC walls. I have been noticing that when I trowel on my plaster that there are carbon marks on the paint. I have used firmanova as well, but also get the carbon marks on the paint.

Anyone have any advice?

thanks.

Steve, that happened to George and I when we did our first calcenova. We would wipe our trowel after every pass ~ that helped some. However, it did not show through our finish at all, and believe me we had a few. (some real dark one's)

It was happening to me when I was pulling down some lime paint so I switched over to a plastic trowel. Worked great.

I have had this occur with venzi in the past. The trick is to use something lighter than your trowel, like a japan scraper for applying the first coat (or with venzi, the primer), or as Charlie suggested, a plastic trowel. Usually this is caused by cheap paint the builders use on new construction. Even if the owner's have lived there 2-3 yrs, they usually haven't painted over the builder's paint.

I have left carbon marks just by driving my Tahoe.
According to some that is.
I am planting a tree tonight to make up for it.

They are showing through the first coat of Veneziano. Can't wait to see what happens as I apply the finish layer.

They didn't show through the finish layer. I'm happy with the outcome, though struggled with determining the appropriate time to burnish.
