A client wants Rasa Calce over paneling. I've read all of the related posted discussions. So, here's my question. Why can't I apply fix-a-quartz to the entire surface, fill the lines with Prontomuro S, and then apply the Rasa Calce? My reasoning for the Prontomuro S is that it can be used to fill mortar lines when covering brick, so why not paneling too.

Thanks for your help.

Paneling is made of wood and expands and contracts a lot with temp and humidity changes, thereby cracking your plaster.

Terry,

Charlie is right, the Rasa will eventually (sooner than later) crack, vertical cracks, and they wont look good for your client, or yourself.

The paneling must come down and sheetrock must go up, sometimes I see clients walls that had paneling and the sheetrock guys probably convinced them to just put the sheetrock right over the paneling, that is a bad idea so if you have any say in the matter......rip the paneling out and put up rock.

I have seen the Rasa crack over straight sheetrock (no paneling underneath), but the framing was a little shoddy and allowed too much movement in the studs so seasonally, the Rasa cracked more and more over a couple of seams......one thing about the Rasa, it is brittle so if there is too much movement underneath, it will give way and crack.

I would have no problem at all hanging drywall over paneling. It saves you the time of having to take the paneling down and would have no effect on the performance of the drywall. I would never tape skim and do a VP over the paneling though!! If you have a 12X12 room @ 8ft high that would be 384 sq ft. or 12 sheets of drywall. $72!!!! plus installation. Certainly a small price to pay in preperation for VP. If this is a hang up for a job then the client can't be serious about this work. JMO
