I am new to VP and decided to give it a go in my family room. I bought the Behr faux brand from home depot. I had them custom mix a grayish color for me, and I've applied one coat. Now that it is on the walls I think it may be a bit dark for my taste. I was wondering if it would be advisable to take back my remaining VP and have them lighten it a shade or two before applying my 2nd coat? Or should I just deal with a color that is a little darker than I thought. How long (in hours or days) do I have before it would be too late to decide the color of my 2nd coat?
Also how durable is Behr VP? I don't really want to add the top coat because I don't want sheen, but I guess sheen is better than fingerprints.... Summary: 1) Would it be nice (or foolish) to lighten my VP a bit on coat #2? 2) How long (max) can I wait between coats? 3) Is Behr considered a durable VP? Thank You, this has been a most informative site. J6 |

J6,
Welcome to Plaster Talk and VP. 1) Yes, the VP retinted lighter for the second coat will lighten the over all color. 2) You can wait until---you can put on the second coat--no problem. 3) Not really. (Short answer) It's not water-resistant. The topcoat is to protect the product from water damage. That topcoat has a plastic like look, but, this VP is an entry-level plaster and a good place to start. Hope your project turns out great! Happy troweling! David |
