which of the plaster finishes can I use for a fireplace? The base is already pretty smooth, looks like prontomural already with very little detail. They want more of a textured plaster, not a high polish?

Hi Cindi,

I have asked this question a lot because I am always stressed about the heat factor. I have been advised the best finishes would be Aquarello and Marmorino. It also depends on whether or not you have tile or nonflammable material around the pit opening, whether it is gas or wood burning, etc.

I have done a marmorino finish on wood burning with a hardy backer facade and a veneziano on a sheetrocked facade fireplace (gas). Seems like montovano would be ok as well.

There are also conflicting opinions on whether it is safe to use wax. I personally do not.

I would also suggest going through the gallery to see the finishes people have used.

Hope this helps.
Cher

Marmorino is pretty, but not textured. You said your clients wanted a textured finish but not shiny? Hmmmm....I would offer murs d art, or stucco lugano, or stucco valentino without buffing the wax.

She actually picked out the textured fresconova sample, would this be a problem on fireplaces?
