Graham,

I have used a modified thinset on a variety of occasions to fill brick in the interior of a house. I used Flexbond II by Mapei. Find it at Lowe's in the flooring section. Don't get the flexbond I, it isn't nearly as good. Just make sure the brick is sound and clean. If it is painted, skuff it up and prime it for a superior bond.

What is celcenova by the way? Did you mean calcenova? I wouldnt put that directly over the brick if that is what you meant.

Greg

I re-read your post. The modified thinset will bond just fine, I've never had a problem and I am still observing it's performance 4 years after application. If you want to make the thinset perform even more, or should I say.... resist cracking to the maximum, add the latex additive to it instead of mixing it with water. I dont see the need for this since it is already modified and is quite durable on it's own but if you want to take it to the most durable stage possible, add the liquid latex additive to it instead of water.

As for the calcenova bonding to the thinset, treat the dried thinset with firmonovo prior to the first skim and it will be fine, this isn't actually absolutely mandatory but I know Doyle would recommend it Wink . I always let the last skim of thinset dry overnight before firmo'ing and first skim of calcenova.

thanks greg...yes calcenova. yeh my friend uses thinset but he mixes his own plaster...so he did not know how calcenova would be. essentially I am going to do the application just like I did the fresconovo i recently completed....except one more base/skim coat. thanks for headsup on firmonovo...will post pics when I am done.
