I was wondering what type of Liberon wax to apply to my Behr venitian plaster. Black Bison, beeswax, carnuba??? And, liquid or paste?

I've used 600 grit disks on an electric Makita car polisher and already have a pretty high gloss. Colors are burgundy with chocolate and salmon veining throughout. I want a wax to finish and remove minor polishing marks. I was planning on hand applying and removing with a lambs wool bonnet on the polisher.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Scott...

I have waxed Behr plaster with Liberon Black Bison and Briwax. The Briwax 'sticks' more because of the naptha content, but renders it bullet proof in places like bathrooms and such.

The Liberon, (my favorite) glides on smoothly, does not stick and probably gives you a similar, water resistant finish as the Briwax. You won't actually remove the wax, but burnish it to a high gloss.

I have not used liquid wax on Behr or our Safra plaster, which I much prefer over the Behr. Far superior plaster that actually requires NO wax at all for a glossy fine hand and appearance. Waxing Safra Venetian Plaster is purely a design element, not a necessity. Contact the School of Italian Plasters for more info.

Hope that helps...... Smiler

Impervious to water...beads up and runs down the wall...doesn't soak in. But Behr products need that or they'll just dissolve under moist conditions...Safra does not.

ThanksSmilerSmilerSmiler!!!

I've ordered Black Bison paste wax, and plan on applying it with 0000 steel wool and polishing it w/ a lambswool bonnet on my polisher. You say it doesn't stick to Behr plaster? Is my plan ok? It's going in the master bedroom so waterproofing won't be a requirement. I'm waxing for a better finish.

Thanks again!

Another option is to use the wax that is manufactured by Behr specifically for their venetian plaster.
It sounds like you have already done this though. I am not sure if the wax will hide the marks. At any rate, give the liberon paste a try. I would apply it with a soft cloth (by hand) and buff it as you go, by hand, also with a soft cloth (It sounds like you need a little corrective love with the final coat) I have tried using power buffers, but they sometimes burn the finish, too much friction. I also don't like the swirl marks that they leave in the wax, lambswool or not. I just prefer the hand burnish and wax. Good luck.

Nancy&Scott, Steel Wool#0000 is a very fine wool, but has a tendency to break apart with use.I don't think I would try useing it with a wax for fear of getting it in my finish.KEN. Frowner

Out of desperation and lack of knowledge (pre-Safra and pre-forum Confused) I applied a sealer, Decorwax, with too heavy a hand over a lime-based venetian plaster. This beautiful marble finish turned into a formica with unwanted sponge marks. My last resort was to try 0000 steel wool. Although it did not restore the original beauty and polish of natural burnished VP, it took on a very lovely
look of its own. It was very satiny and rich without being high gleam. Sort of like a satin finish instead of high gloss in hardwood. I actually think this is a sellable finish, it is just probably too labor intensive. If anyone else tries this (maybe on a sample board) I'd love feedback. -Toni....the Wall Muse
