Go to the library and look through books that regard Italian architecture. While the books don't specifically name the walls as a lime plaster; they are. Unfortunately, there are no books specific to limes available, YET. However, if it is an old Italian building and it is not covered in marble, granite, or limestone, it is covered with lime plaster (grassello). All of the old buildings that look like the walls are chipping away, or you can see water streaks under the windows and roof lines are, for the most part, a lime plaster. Does this help?

Just about any Italian city will have an abundance of historic lime finishes on buildings and homes. Some large Italian cities to consider seeing are Rome, Florence. Venice, and Verona. Other lesser known, Northern Italian cities and towns are Padova, Citta Della, Asolo, Treviso, Trento, Castelfranco, Bassano del Grappa, Cortina d'Ampezzo and Mantova.

Find ANY villas by Andrea Palladio, (He was born in Padova) and definitely see them. These villas are located in Northern Italy, in the region of Veneto (Venice) and date from the 16th centuries. The villas are--molto bella!

I cant tell you how excited I am to explore Italy and to look and feel its history.

I am always the guy going into a restaurant or other unique building, just feeling up the place, admiring, and sometimes unadmiring the applications.

Mantovano, Venice and Verona. In that order are my favorite places so far for seeing the plasters. On our first trip to Italy we all was walking down the street in Verona and passed an open door. We could not resist asking if we could all come in and touch their walls. Even though the request was strange the Italian's allowed us to come in. Seeing the plasters every where in Italy changes your preception. Not to mention they inspire as well as fill your head with many ideas for applications.
