Hello Everyone!

I'm a newbie to the forum and to VP and faux finishes in general. I recently discovered VP at a Home & Gardens show here in VA where I met a handful of different artisans. I'm currently in the process of narrowing down what I would like to have done to my condo (VP or a faux finish), as well as which artist is the best match for the job.

I found a photo online of the unique pattern that I like, but I'm not sure if it is plaster or a faux finish. The caption reads "Faux Weathered Plaster" but I don't have any more details. It looks as if it could be paint that has another product mixed into it. Can someone tell what it is by looking at the image on this web page: http://www.weknowfaux.com/FauxFinishGallery.html It is the 8th one down on the left side that says "Faux Weathered Plaster". Also, how difficult is it to achieve this type of effect? Has anyone done something similar and have a photo?

I'm really glad that I found your website since there is so much information. The gallery photos are incredible! This is by far the most informative website that I've seen online so far. Thanks! [image]http://www.weknowfaux.com/FauxFinishGallery.html[/image]

Hi and welcome!

Real or fake? It's often hard to tell from pictures, but this looks like paint to me.

The title, "Faux Weathered Plaster" gives a possible clue.

This look could be produced from either real plaster or paint--however it would be so much more realistic in real life--if it were done in plaster.

As far as someone being able to reproduce it--any working graduate of the School of Italian Plasters should be able to produce this type of look. They will do it in plasters that will endure and be scrubable.

I suggest that you contact Lynn Whiteley or one of the other applicators that are listed in Virginia. I mention Lynn because he is not only an excellent plaster applicator, but an artist as well. He or one of the others will be glad to assist you!

Thanks for your expert opinion and quick response! I actually have Lynn's card from the Home & Gardens show and have been looking at his website. I'll give him a call! Thanks!
