No replies to my dome question in another thread so thought I might try here.

What is the best first step for a bicoulor VP in a dome that is made NOT of wood or drywall. Probably that lightweight stuff they make niches out of. I'll check b-4 I begin with contractor. Thought of sanding, then fixaquartz, then my plasters. Any advice? First time dome for me.

Here's her original post.

"I'll be doing a job with Veneziano in a bi coulor. The designer wants some gold leaf peaking through. I'd rather do a gold wax on top at the end but I understand the look she wants. I thought of doing my first layer. Then doing a bi color layer, then some gold leaf, and a final bi color layer to polish, burrying most of the leaf. ANy other suggestions? My worry is that plaster over the gold leaf will make scratches in the leaf and not stick to it. I did this look in a dome using lusterstone and it worked out well but plaster is plaster after all."

You might try a gold metallo and then the Veneziano on top. Look at the stencil samples.

Hi Steve. I am doing the same exact dome treatment now. Gold leaf will scratch. I'm using a bit of gold rub and buff. Since I only need a little here and there I can put on my final bi coulor and avoid the rub and buff gold areas or bury them as much as needed. My designer loved the sample board so that's what I went with. Lets compare pictures when we finish!!

oops! I just realized that was my own post!!Guess Ihad better check more often! Doyle did help me when I placed my phone call as did the makers of the dome. Rub and buff (craft store a couple of bucks) is my weapon of choice when I need a bit of POW. Thanks for replying. I'll post a picture when my husband can take it.

The plaster has invaded my brain cells! Yes, this particular job will introduce more of what I am doing. I'm doing a metallo plaster to look like sheet metal and putting 1000 1" rivits. I'll be in that room a week I think. when I retire from my day job in june, I plan on hitting this forum more often. How is it going for you?
