Rasa Calce
Valentino
Stucco Mantovano
Stucco Valentino
Stucco Lugano
Fresconova
Etruia

Hi, I was looking through the SOIP photo galleries and looked at the many wonderful creations done by the various accomplished applicators. I noticed many different names of plasters that were used...as you saw in the list above. My question is: are those plaster names a description of the technique, or are those actually names for the types of plasters that were used, or a combination of both?

Thank you,
Tom

Tom, maybe I can help a little....

Rasa Calce: lime based JC type material that will allow controlled hair line cracking in a very natural organic way.

Valentino: a technique using several plasters.

Mantovano: technique using several plasters of which the top coat is specially formulated for this technique

Lugano: distressed marmorino, technique

Fresco: don't know, it is a rough cementatious basecoat product from waht I gather

Etruria: decorative product which leaves a sanded topcoated finish randomly thru the wall.

There is no mystery, just some good products artisans here hae used to create amazing finishes.

Carmine, the fresco as you have described is not cementitious. It is an acrylic based paint that can be layered in such a way to achieve the look of an old, faded, and or chipped surface. A variety of applications exist for this material.....not to be confused with Fresconovo.

thank you greg, I shortened fresconovo to fresco (since fresconovo was already stated). yes, there is a product also called fresco which I personally like alot. it is a system that allows you to create fresco style walls, )ala pompeian style walls which are worn back revealing layers of other colors, in a fast way.

It is my favorite product they carry.
