Is it possible to put water in your venzi
primer and or finisher to get it to pull
tighter?

You can add just a titch, but you are much better off whipping it up really good with your drill. It makes a HUGE difference over just stirring by hand. When I whipp it up, I can pull extremely tight. It helps with the dryness factor, too. Night and day difference!

I used to put water in to venzi primer and finisher. It worked out well. Whip with a drill, no hand stirring.

Forgot to ask... how much water to how much
primer? 5%, 10%? Go by feel?

I used to add water because of the dry climate. I needed a product consistency I feel confortable to apply with. My advice would be use it as a neccesity.

I see, so being it's not that dry in my basement
where I'm practicing it's not a necessity.
I thought it might be similar to adding some
water to your paint to make it easier to go
on.

I would mix the plaster at a slower rate of speed as to not add too much air into the plaster. Basically you need to losten up the plaster a bit. Sometimes if the plaster looks really dehydrated, I would add some water. Adding too much causes the plaster to shrink allot. This goes for plaster and primer.
