This question is directed to Filippo or any of our Italian friends:
I wonder if you could help me with something? In the UK, when a potential tradesman learns his trade he goes through an apprenticeship training system and eventually becomes a craftsman. Unfortunately, this is not as thorough as it used to be many years ago. In the past, an apprentice would spend about seven years learning before embarking on a journey around the country where he would work for different master craftsmen and learn the trade in depth. This stage was known as Journeyman. Finally, after many years of learning, travelling and working for various masters, he may eventually set up as a master craftsman himself. So, the three stages of this process were known as; Apprentice, Journeyman and Master Craftsman. Many of the "Guilds" operated this system. I am sure that Italy had or has a similar system. I am interested in finding out if this is or was the case and what equivalent terms or titles were used instead of Apprentice, Journeyman and Master Craftsman. It may just be a simple case of word translation ... or there may be more of an explanation needed? Thank you for your time. Craig |

Craig, sorry no one has responded to your post. They must have overlooked it. I don't believe in the US, we have apprenticeships, at least not the way they used to in Italy.
If you have access to the private forum for certified applicators, post the question under the "ask Safra" thread. That way, either Filippo or Daniella will respond. If you don't have access, then probably best to call Doyle at the Dallas TX school. Nancy M. |
