Hi Doyle and Linda. I'm still high from our week with you guys in Atlanta. Hope I can come and visit San Diego one of those days and see your new school. Just like Magga said we are on our first Safra job, and now we are dealing with raising scaffold. It is always a hassle for us, it seems that there are no rental companies that can take care of this for us in a decent manner. But the homeowners love the finish and we know the room will look great once it is done, scaffold problems or not.ciao

Hello Sigridur, welcome to a whole new world of finishes, your gonna love it.

I used to rent allot of scaffolding in the past, and at times it would be a hassle.
I was on this high faux job one time and my ladder slipped a bit on me and I said that's it,..I'm buying my own.

Sherwin Williams sells a set that stacks up to about 25' and is very easy to setup and breakdown. I paid $1200 for it. It breaks down into three 6' individuals, or stacks three high.
I rarely use the third set. If I am doing a decorative ceiling sometimes, I stack two 6'ers side by side and just walk across them. They easily pay for themselves, and you can bid higher projects more comfortably without worrying about pickup and delivery. My Mom just borrowed two sets and they fit into her mini van.
anyway, I highly recommend them.
Since then, I have a white covered trailer with all of my high gear in it. When I have a higher project,..I just hitch up and go.

Sigridur,

Fritz is right. Great deal there. We even found a really small one that is foldable for $99 on sale at a Sherwin Williams. Great for low ceilings and fits in my Corolla!

The best my wife and I have ever used is UPRIGHT Scaffolding. It's the lightest weight (all aluminum with a trap door built into the walk platform) but very expensive. Not buyable but reasonably rentable. It was the only scaffolding we could build around a spiral staircase with a 25 ft. ceiling. United Rentals carries it. Don't know if they are in VA. We'll use UPRIGHT again because of its lightweight and soooo easy to put together. One person can actually put it together all the way up with the exception of the platform.

Congrats on your 1st job. I knew you both would be getting after it. Ciao Ice Maidens.

Hi Fritz and Giacomo. Thank you both for your advises. We were actually talking about that maybe our best bet would be to buy the scaffolding and store them between jobs. Before we would rent scaffolding every four or five months, but now it seems that every job we do requires scaffolding. Somehow in our Icemaiden brains we thought there were these magic men that would arrive with clean and sturdy scaffolding that they would assemble for us with a smile on their faces. But I guess that is just a fantacy and we better get back to reality and recognize that those guys do not exist.
Fritz, do you have a picture of yours?
And you too Giacomo?. If you could e mail them to me I would really appreciate it. Giacomo the one you are talking about is interesting, but somehow I think that kind does not exist here. I looked (Ithink) everywhere and could not see anything lightweight.
